Disrupt that which no longer serves to liberate

Enter a strange world with tunnel vision to see the world through rose-coloured glasses.

The artist finds uncounted votes, a shack and a monument of artworks.

He becomes possessed by his inability to produce any work and ends up destroying it all, thinking he's destroyed nothing at all...

Moerland Must Fall is a multi-layered visual exploration of a fictional dystopia to confront real personal trauma set amidst the topical issues of colonial protest in Africa. The video visualises the artist’s bizarre encounters in a strange land he calls Moerland.

The artwork is the story of the artist’s experiences in Moerland, a place of "fears" waiting to be faced once and for all.

Upon arrival, a man with tunnel vision directed the artist to an abandoned voting station. The artist quickly discovered that Moerland’s ideological goal was to force you to see this world through rose-coloured glasses, a metaphor for perceiving the world with irrational optimism. Having this worldview he unconsciously destroyed one of his artworks, thinking that he was creating jovially. He later discovered money with his own face, crossed out. The money was mysteriously used as voting ballots to vote for the fall of Moerland. The defacement however rendered the money useless, but the vote still carried worth. This symbol of sacrifice leads the artist to finally confront his biggest fear: to consciously destroy his own art for art's sake...
